Yes, it's a tragedy that a horse died while racing. I don't deny that. It's a shame that the racing horse Eight Belles had to be put down.
But you don't ban a whole sport because of one death. Do you ban boxing because people die in it? How about skiing? Or cyclists?
The majority of horses aren't mistreated by their owners. These horses are their living--they aren't going to beat them. Like I said, this is the majority of owners--there is always going to be the exception. But that's with everything.
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), has come down hard and fast on this and said that horse racing needs to be banned.
It's a whole other world when you delve into the world of PETA. You can't compare animals to people. Animals aren't people. If animals were people, they would have done what human slaves did a long time ago. Rebel.
Animal's don't rebel because they don't know any different. Do you think a racehorse looks at his trainer and says "Hey, I'd rather be in that field over there eating grass. Lend a hand, would ya?"
Of course not! The racehorses are bred to race, and they love doing it. Period. Don't crush thousands of horses hearts because of one death. Those horses are probably treated better than we are.
