Costume for Dragon*Con 2007

Fujiwara-No-Sai from Hikaru No Go

I've completely sewed this one myself. There is are no store-bought items on this other than fabric and shoes. The only thing that was really a pain was attaching the sleeves. The collar came out much better than I expected.

I used a type of white stiff cotton fabric that my mom had lying around the house. It has small white flowers on it as well, which you can't really tell, but it adds "texture" to the whole fabric.

I used red accents instead of Sai's normal purple, mainly because all I had was red fabric. I was planning to go to Wal-Mart and buy some purple fabric for the kimono underneath the whole thing, but I decided to go with red as well for that.

I'm very pleased with the results so far. (Wii remote there for size comparison)

The pants are made out of a modified hakama syle. By the way, I am used no patterns at all for this costume, just pictures. I have a book on the art of Hikaru No Go, and that has been invaluable to my costume. The only pattern I used is for the kimono, and even that I modified a bit to make it shorter.

The fan I want to make myself, but I'm not sure I can pull that off. I do have all the materials, but I want the fan to look good, so I'll probably buy it.

The eboshi hat...hmmm....I'm thinking I'll make it out of stiff fabric.

guess I'm not too good at this www dot thingy. Thought I left you this and then couldn't see it; I am reposting it. Sorry if you've already seen it.

Btw, meant to drop by and congratulate you on your graduation earlier. But now will have to do. Also we share the same birth date so Happy belated Birthday. You know how it is being a Gemini we get too many things going on and are late to everything. So Happy Birthday; also as a Graduate, now I think even your Mom couldn't say it was impolite to just call me Jim and forgot the Mr.... It makes me feel very old, and plus it once of the extra benefits of being a graduate. So once again Congrats and Happy Birthday! Jim

Thanks Jim! Yes, I understand about the "being late" thing. I just tell people (if I'm late to something) that I "got lost on the road of life" or "a black cat crossed in front of me and I had to go the long way." :D
